What is a NuvaLift™?
A NuvaLift is a minimally invasive, safe and effective non-surgical procedure that results in a subtle, rested and natural-looking appearance. Tiny "feather like" threads, made from a material that has been safely used in the body for years in other medical products, are inserted and adjusted under the skin to tighten, reposition and stimulate collagen production to the skin around the eyes, neck, lip and/or brow.
Would I be a good candidate for NuvaLift™?
If you have noticed moderate drooping of the soft tissues of the brow, face or neck, are in good medical health, are within typical height/weight standards and are not taking certain medications, you may be a good candidate for a NuvaLift™. This procedure does not replace a conventional facelift, however; approximately 80% of candidates for a traditional facelift would be good candidates for the NuvaLift™. The best thing to do would be to schedule an evaluation consultation with Dr. Thomas Martens to determine if a NuvaLift™ would be right for you.
What can I expect at my consultation?
Dr. Martens will discuss your candidacy, expectations of results you desire, risks, what to expect during the procedure and address any concerns that you may have.
If I am a good candidate for a NuvaLift™, what would happen next?
If after consulting with Dr. Martens, it is determined that a NuvaLift™ could produce the results you desire, Dr. Martens will advise you on how to prepare for the procedure and what to expect during the recovery period. Then you could schedule an appointment for you procedure.
What can I expect during the procedure?
You will be fully awake during the entire procedure. Dr. Martens will map out insertion points and a local anesthetic will be applied to ensure your comfort. Dr. Martens will commence with insertions of the NuvaLift ™ threads. Halfway through the procedure, the Dr. will offer you a mirror to compare and see the immediacy of results.
How long does the procedure take?
In most cases the NuvaLift™ can be performed in less than an hour.
Is the NuvaLift™ safe?
Yes, the NuvaLift™ is safe. Dr. Martens was personally trained by Dr. Gustavo Leibaschoff, one of the pioneers of the procedure. This is a non-surgical procedure that uses inert, non-reactive threads which have been used in brain, heart and abdominal surgeries for years. The threads are specifically designed to remain in the body for life and can be removed in the rare incidence of reaction. Because the NuvaLift™ is performed under a local anesthetic, there are none of the risks associated with a general anesthetic.
Does it hurt?
Pain and discomfort are very minimal with this procedure and clients may elect to take a pain reliever such as Tylenol. In most cases, ice compresses are recommended for the first 24-48 hours.
What kind and when, should I expect results?
You will notice results immediately, especially when looking in the mirror midway through the procedure. Improvements will continue gradually for a few weeks following the procedure, while new collagen forms around the threads, causing a continuous and desirable tightening effect. You can expect to look rested with a natural refreshed look. Clients report unsolicited comments from friends and family like, "have you lost weight?" and "you look really rested lately."
How long will the results last?
You can expect the results to last from 3 to 5 years. The threads will continue to slow any future droopiness even after the obvious desirable results have faded. The NuvaLift™ procedure can be repeated and does not compromise any options in the event a facelift is desired in the future.
When can I return to normal activities?
Depending on your job and your tolerance for some potential bruising and/or swelling, you can return to work or other activities within 2-3 days following the procedure. In most cases, makeup can be applied as soon as the next day.
What are some of the risks or possible complications of a NuvaLift™?
Risks include an allergic reaction to the anesthetic, hematoma, seroma, infection, palpability of the threads resulting in a telltale line. Sometimes a thread end may poke through the skin or dislodging of the thread may occur, resulting in a lopsided or crooked result (asymmetry), if either of these occurs, you would immediately contact us to schedule an appointment to address the issue.
What other cosmetic procedures can this procedure be combined with?
The NuvaLift™ is a stand alone procedure. However, it is not uncommon to have this procedure combined with Botox to reduce facial muscle activity, dermal fillers that enhance volume, peels and/or laser therapy to improve skin texture.
How much does a NuvaLift™ cost?
Prices start at $3000 and depend on a number of factors that will be addressed in the initial consultation.

What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a simple, non-surgical, therapeutic, muscle relaxing injectable agent approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that smoothes wrinkles for a healthy, youthful appearance.

How does BOTOX® work? What areas can be treated?
Over time, smiles or frowns cause "expression lines" around your eyes or between your brows. BOTOX® is injected and blocks the nerve impulses of facial muscles that enable expressions. This allows muscles to relax and wrinkles to fade. You can frown or smile without creases or wrinkles.
How long do the results Last?
Benefits of a BOTOX® treatment typically start fading in about four months. Results are cumulative with repeated treatments, extending the effectiveness of this procedure approximately six to eight months.
How long before I start to see results?
The effect of BOTOX® is typically visible within three days. In about ten to fourteen days the muscle completely relaxes, the skin softens and reveals a relaxed and youthful appearance.
What sensations will I experience during a session? Does it hurt?
Discomfort is minimal and brief. Clients have reported a "pin prick" feeling similar to the sensation of a bug bite. At your request, the Physician will use some ice to minimize any discomfort.
Is BOTOX® safe?
BOTOX® is safe and is the only treatment of its kind approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). BOTOX® only effects muscles at the treatment site and does not extend to other areas of the body.
Are there side effects?
Over a million people have experienced BOTOX®. Rare cases of side effects are usually mild, temporary and include: headache, flu symptoms, nausea, and light bruising at the injection sight or a slight, impermanent drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of expression.
What should I expect after a treatment?
You may resume regular activities immediately following a treatment, even though there may be temporary bruising or redness at the injection site.
Is there anything I should NOT do after treatment?
You should not lie down for at least four hours after your treatment. This gives the BOTOX® a chance to completely saturate the muscle tissue.
Are there any reasons I shouldn't have BOTOX®?
Yes, BOTOX® is not recommended for clients who are:
- Pregnant or nursing
- Taking any other medications or supplements
- Allergic to Botulinum Toxin Type A
- Prone to a history of botulism poisoning

What is laser hair removal?

How does laser hair removal work?
Lasers utilize light energy that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft and transfers thermal heat to the hair follicle. The hair follicle is permanently disabled from future hair growth.
Are laser treatments safe?
Yes, the energy generated by the laser is designed to target the hair follicle. Our treatment staff has undergone thorough training and has extensive experience working with the laser equipment to ensure effective and safe results.
Do the treatments hurt?
You may feel a tingling or slight stinging sensation and some areas of your body may be more sensitive than others. Most clients are comfortable during the session.
How many treatment sessions are necessary?
Typically, it takes an average of 6 sessions 3-4 weeks apart for the face and 6-8 weeks apart on the body for the sessions to produce optimal results. The number of follicles active during each treatment determines how many sessions will be necessary to effectively stop hair growth. Other factors may include skin and hair color, age, weight, ethnicity, hormones, diet, medications, metabolism or stress. Dark hair with light skin will respond the fastest typically averaging 5 treatments. Lighter hair like red or blonde with dark skin will average 8 treatments for maximum results.
How many hair follicles are in an active growth stage at any given time?
Only about 20% of the thousands of hair follicles found in one square inch of skin are in an active growth stage at any given time. This is why multiple sessions are necessary to achieve desired results.
After completing a series of laser treatments, will I need future treatments?
Maybe, hair follicles in a dormant state during the initial series of laser treatments may eventually become active and need to be eliminated with a simple touch up treatment. Hairs that grow from these follicles are often finer in texture and lighter in color.
How does laser treatment compare with other hair removal methods?
The energy generated by the laser is used to simultaneously target hundreds of hair follicles, making it effective, permanent, safe and non-invasive. Therefore, it does not cause rashes, ingrown hair, or any other pain or trauma typically associated with outdated hair removal methods.
What should I expect after a treatment?
You may experience redness and mild tenderness in the treated area shortly after your session. This does not interfere with normal activities and will usually subside within a few hours of the session. In rare cases, redness may last longer, but will still be mild and temporary. Around 3-10 days after your treatment, hair will surface from the treated follicles looking like new growth; however, hair is actually beginning to shed. Often the hair will get darker and thicker just before it falls out. You may want to use a loofah or glove to help remove the hair as it falls out.
Is there anything I shouldn't do after treatment?
Yes, to ensure optimal results and safety, please:
- Do not wax, pluck, or bleach your treated areas between sessions (shaving is okay).
- Do not expose the treatment areas to direct sunlight. Do not use tanning beds at any time during your laser treatment intervals. (Please use a sunscreen daily if the areas to be treated will be exposed to sunlight).
- Do not apply any products on the treated areas of your skin except sunscreen if you will be outside. Avoid Retin-A®, alpha-hydroxy acids, glycolic acids, astringents, etc. (You may wash gently with soap and water, but do not rub or scrub the area for several days following your treatment).
- Do not pick or manipulate the skin in the treatment areas.
Yes, laser hair removal is not recommended for those clients who:
- Are pregnant
- Have diabetes
- Have a history of skin keloids as they may be prone to scarring after any skin trauma including laser treatment
- Have used Acutane® (Isotretinion) in the past 6 months
- Are actively using photosensitive medication
- Have an active infection or history of herpes simplex in the area to be treated
- Have a history of personal or familial skin cancer
- Have been tanning within the last couple of weeks
